双层巴士即双层的公共汽车（double-decker bus）， 是指载客车厢由上下两层组成的公共汽车。双层巴士起源于英国，其中行走伦敦的红色双层公交车，更是英国的“国宝”。双层巴士现在在我国的很多城市都能能够看到。为了使乘客能够更好地观光，有些双层巴士的上层甚至是敞开的。在一些与英国相关连的地方，诸如印度、香港、新加坡、南非等地，双层巴士是主要的通勤交通工具之一(另外德国特别是北部德国城市也大量使用)。由于车体庞大，重心较高，驾驶员和乘客都要特别注意乘车安全。因此，双层巴士不能开得太快，乘客也不能站在上层。由于行车安全和经营成本关系，不少国家都曾引进过双层公共汽车，但还是以失败告终。目前一些欧洲、北美城市虽也有双层巴士，惟主要还是作为观光巴士。这些车的上层通常是露天或半露天的。
